The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball team’s season came to an end Tuesday night at Heritage High School. The Lady Wildcats were dropped in straight sets in the Region Semi-Final by Farragut. “This was a disappointing way to end a very good season,” said Head Coach Dave Kolodney. “This is a super talented team and I really thought we’d make a true run through the playoffs – but in the end, the Admirals we’re too much for us tonight.” The Lady ‘Cats held the lead throughout the entire first set through solid blocking and hitting, only to fall behind late and drop the set 23-25. Oak Ridge was never able to get it back together and keep it close over the final two Sets. “In a way, this was a microcosm of the whole year,” Kolodney continued. “We were always on the precipice of greatness but weren’t able to make it over the top. That’s what happened tonight. We fell back on the problems that plagued us all year – we lost our energy and couldn’t finish points.” In the last two Sets, the Wildcats had more Hitting Errors (15) then Kills (11). “This one will sting for awhile but I’m very proud of this group for what they’ve done all year and even tonight where they fought until the last point and never gave up. We’re going to miss our Seniors but we’ve got great young talent and the future of Wildcat volleyball looks strong,” finished Kolodney. Senior Co-Captain Piper Halcrow was named to the Region All-Tournament Team for her performance despite the Wildcat loss.
Oak Ridge finishes the season as District 4-AAA regular season and tournament Champions, but falls in the Region Semi-final match to the District 3-AAA Runner-up for the second straight year. The Lady Wildcats fall to 27-12 (11-1 District) for the Season.
