Wildcats News · Volleyball Captures District Championship over West

The Oak Ridge High School Lady Wildcat Volleyball team travelled to West High School Thursday night for the District 4-AAA Tournament.  The Lady ‘Cats earned a first-round bye for finishing as regular District Champions, and faced the 5thseed Halls in their Semi-Final Match.  Oak Ridge came out strong defeating Halls 25-7 and never looked back, sweeping the Lady Devils in straight sets.  The Lady ‘Cats waited for the completion of the Bearden and West to determine who they’d face in the Championships.  #2 seed West came out on top, and set-up the rematch for The Lady Wildcat’s only District loss of the season.  Oak Ridge dispensed of West in 3 straight sets and came home with another District Championship.  “I couldn’t be more proud of what this team accomplished tonight,” said Head Coach Dave Kolodney.  “We came into this season with a goal of making it to State.  That doesn’t happen without the way we played tonight.  We came out fast and played our best statistical set of the year in the first against Halls.”  Kolodney was referring to his team’s 2.71 pass rating and 100% Side Out.  “We were firing on all cylinders,” Kolodney continued.  “We didn’t let up and took the next two as well; and then to overcome a nearly 3 hour layoff and sweep a very good West team is great.”  The Bearden-West semi-final match went to 5 Sets in an epic match between the two rivals.  “Now we’ve got to turn our attention to our [Region] Semi-final match-up with Farragut.  We’ve seen them a couple times this year and I think we match up well with them.  I’m excited and I’ve got all the confidence in the world in my team,” Kolodney finished.

The Lady ‘Cats were led by Senior Middle Hitter and Co-Captain Piper Halcrow finishing with a team high 29 Kills, 2 Blocks, and 100% Serving.  Halcrow was recognized as District Tournament MVP and All-Tournament Team.  Sophomore Outside Hitter, Ainsley Patrick, also earned All-Tournament Team honors for the District Champion Lady Wildcats.

Oak Ridge will face District 3-AAA Runner-up Farragut High School at Heritage High School on Tuesday.  One victory will give the Lady Wildcats the opportunity to compete in the Sectionals on Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats improve to 27-11 on the Season.
