Multiple Teams · ORHS Basketball earns PrepXtra Awards


Wednesday, April 20th was a big night for Oak Ridge Basketball. The PrepXtra Awards banquet, held at the Thompson Boling Arena, showcased some of high school basketball’s best in the area.

Girls Coach of the Year – Paige Green took over the ORHS girls basketball team in June
of last year. She brought to the program a belief that if you worked hard, and believed, good things would come. The players and coaches bought in, although it was a young team, they did what no one expected them to do… They went to the 2016 TSSAA State Basketball Tournament and became the state runner-up.

Girls Sophomore of the Year – Mykia Dowdell, eats, breathes and sleeps basketball. Just a sophomore, she has emerged a a leader for the Lady Wildcats averaging just under 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals and assists per game this past season.

Boys Basketball Player of the Year – Junior Tee Higgins, a finalist for the Class AAA, Mr. Basketball averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists this season for the Wildcats basketball team. Coach Aaron Green is excited to see what Higgins will bring to the team his senior year.
