Several Oak Ridge football players were recently honored by the Knoxville News Sentinel. These players were recognized as outstanding athletes in their special areas by being named to the 2015 All PrepXtra Team.
2015 All PrepXtra Offensive Team Tee Higgins (Junior): Higgins, a UT commit, and Class 5A Mr. Football Back of the year caught 52 passes for 941 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Wildcats. He also returned 11 punts for 355 yards and 1 touchdown. Tee also had 41 tackles for the season.
Tee was also named to the 2015 Tennessee Sports Writers Association 5A – Offense (WR) All-State Team.
2015 All PrepXtra Defensive Team Brandon Nickle (Senior): Nickle did double duty as Oak Ridge’s punter and kicker. Brandon averaged 39.6 yards on 25 punts and had 3 over 55 yards. Brandon averaged 70% from the field goal line and 98% on point after touchdown attempts. 71 of his 77 kickoffs resulted in touchbacks.
Brandon was selected to participate in the the 2015 Toyota East vs. West All-Star Classic game where he set a new game-record field goal of 42 yards and had a 74 yard punt.
Nickle was selected to the 2015 Tennessee Sports Writers Association 5A – Defense (P) All-State Team.
2015 All PrepXtra Defensive Second Team Matthew Warmbrod (Senior): Matt was key to Oak Ridge’s defense and also did double duty on the offensive team. Despite being injured early in the season, Matt finished the season with 61 tackles, 1 interception and forced 3 fumbles.
Davon Middleton (Senior): Davon started for Oak Ridge in the defense. He had 38 tackles, caused 4 fumbles, recovered 2 fumbles and had 3 interceptions. As the season went on, Davon also did time in the offense and scored 5 touchdowns for the Wildcats.
